As always when my son comes home I question him about his day. He told me he had a substitute Mr. Lacey and he was a total jerk. I tried not to encourage his negativity about the situation but he seemed to be genuinely upset. I asked him why he thought the substitute was a jerk. He began repeating some of the things Mr. Lacey had said. From what I heard this sub teacher was totally irritated by my son and began berating, belittling him. My son is very bright but struggles on some subjects and needs extra time and attention. When my son was questioning him about his work the teacher replied " You have been going to school for 80 days, you should already know how to do this."
To be completely honest, I too have gotten frustrated with my son and made belittling comments particularly with homework or chores. Somehow I feel this teacher should have used restraint. He was only going to be there for 1 day right? After all this is his chosen profession. He is a professional TEACHER ! I feel he wouldn't talk to my son like that if I were there. How little of a man do you have to be to bully around children who feel like they can not defend themselves. I never made a big deal about it with Ethan, but Tom and I both were bothered by this.
